SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2021 spring campaign with a 1-0 victory over visiting Schreiner on Saturday, bringing the 'Roos to 1-4 on the year.

The 'Roos came out as the aggressors early, getting multiple shots in the opening 90 seconds of the match. Austin College broke through in the 12th minute of action, when Logan Newman sent a cross through the box to Ivan Barrios, who headed it home at the 11:44 mark to make it a 1-0 game, and that would wind up being the only tally of the day for either side. Austin College controlled play in the opening 45 minutes, owning a 12-to-5 shot advantage, but in the second half it was Schreiner who began to hold possession, out-shooting the 'Roos 8-to-3 but failing to get a shot in the back of the net.

Connor Tullis made four saves for Austin College to earn the clean sheet, while Cody Smith made five stops for Schreiner. Austin College heads to Houston next weekend, where they'll take on St. Thomas before traveling to Colorado Springs to take on Colorado College the following weekend in the regular season finale.
