Trinity Edges 'Roo Men's Soccer

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team struck first, but Trinity found the net twice in the second half to hand the 'Roos a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 0-3 overall on the year.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening half, with the Tigers controlling possession for much of the half with the 'Roos being out-shot 12-to-1 before the break. The 'Roos used strong defense to keep Trinity off the board, as the Tigers had eight corner kick opportunities compared to just one for Austin College in the first 45 minutes of action.

The 'Roos came out aggressive on the offensive end of the field in the second half and it paid off early, with Mickey Maloney taking a ball to the endline and firing it across the box to Ivan Barrios, who punched it in from point blank at the 49:12 mark to make it a 1-0 game. That lead would not hold for long, however, as Trinity tallied just over five minutes later off of a free kick, and the score would remain 1-1 until the 72nd minute of action. That's when Trinity's Chen Adjei managed to weave his way through the 'Roo defense and put the ball in the back of the net to make it a 2-1 game, and the Tigers would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Trinity finished with an 18-to-9 shot advantage, and Connor Tullis made four saves in goal for the Roos.
