'Roos Advance to SCAC Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team kept their late season momentum going in the first round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, topping No. 4-seed Southwestern 1-0 to advance to the conference semifinals on the campus of host school Trinity University. The 'Roos have now won four in a row and are 7-10-1 overall on the year.

The 'Roos dominated possession early on but were unable to capitalize until just before halftime, when Isaiah Wingeier-Rayo was able to sneak a shot past Southwestern goalkeeper Jack Viles following a scrum after a corner kick in the 43rd minute. The score remained 1-0 heading into the half, as Austin College held a 6-to-3 shot advantage in the opening half. Southwestern came out as the aggressor in the second half, firing eight shots to four for the 'Roos, but the Austin College defense managed to turn the Pirates away throughout to hang on for the one goal victory.

Juan Rodriguez earned his third clean sheet in the last four games, making four stops for Austin College. The No. 5-seeded 'Roos now advance to face top-seeded Colorado College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
