Men's Soccer Battles to Draw with LeTourneau

Men's Soccer Battles to Draw with LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team fell behind 1-0 early in the second half, but a late goal squared things up and the 'Roos would eventually earn a draw with LeTourneau after two scoreless overtime periods. The 'Roos are now 1-2-1 on the year.

It was a defensive battle through the first 45 minutes of action, with the teams taking a scoreless tie into halftime. LeTourneau owned a 9-to-4 shot advantage in the first half but Austin College keeper Juan Rodriguez and the 'Roo defense managed to turn the Jackets away. However, four minutes into the second half the Jackets would strike to take a 1-0 lead, and that score would hold until the 76th minute of action, when Cesar Escobar found Jean Marie Luundo for the game-tying goal.

Regulation would end with the teams still square at 1-1, and neither team was able to create much offense in either overtime period. The 'Roos fired off a pair of shots in the first overtime compared to none for LeTourneau, and then in the second overtime those numbers flipped as the game ended in a draw. For the game, LeTourneau owned a 15-to-12 edge in shots, and Rodriguez finished the game with four saves.
