Le Selected for USA D-3 Soccer Team

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's soccer player Phillip Le has been selected to participate with the USA D-3 Soccer Team on its tour of Brazil this summer, and will compete from May 28 through June 6.

The USA D-3 Soccer Teams are invited NCAA Division III men's and women's players from across the country. This team is comprised of players recognized as All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Conference performers. Le is one of 16 men's players selected for this year's team, with eight schools and eight different home states represented on the roster. Le, a rising senior from Frisco, was a second team All-West Region and first team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selection in 2017.

A scoring midfielder for the 'Roos, Le tallied seven goals with two assists for Austin College last year. In 2016, he was the conference's runner-up for its Offensive Player of the Year Award after scoring 14 goals. He was also an All-West Region selection that season.

The USA D-3 Soccer tour will begin its orientation on May 28 in Orlando before flying to Sao Paulo, Brazil, that evening. The team will practice on May 29 in the city of Jundiai before playing their first two matches on May 30-31 in the cities of Jundiai and Valinhos. The team will then travel to Rio de Janeiro on Friday, June 1. The teams will play their third match on Saturday, June 2 and their fourth on Monday, June 6 versus teams from Rio de Janeiro. They will compete against top U-22 club teams from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.  

While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school, and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. 

The team will be coached by Mary Hardin-Baylor head coach Brad Bankhead, and features players from UMHB, Hardin-Simmons, Berry College, Pacific Lutheran, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Elmhurst College, and Gettysburg College.
