'Roo Men Drop Overtime Heartbreaker

The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in Georgetown, falling 3-2 on a golden goal in the first overtime against Southwestern on Friday night. The 'Roos are now 4-9-1 overall and 2-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the loss.

Jack Wheaton put Austin College ahead midway through the first half, punching home a loose ball in front of the net in the 24th minute of action. Southwestern evened the score in the 38th minute to send the teams into halftime squared at 1-1.

The Pirates wasted little time grabbing the lead, tallying in the 47th minute, but Austin College leveled things on a penalty kick from Garrett Matacale in the 65th minute to send the game into overtime. With under a minute left in the first overtime period, Southwestern's Philip Nelson scored to give the Pirates to win.

Joseph Khalaf made five saves for Austin College as the Pirates held a 22-16 shot advantage in the match.
