'Roo Men Edged by Crusaders in Season Opener

Mary Hardin-Baylor tallied midway through the first half and Austin College was never able to equalize, as the 'Roo men's soccer team fell 1-0 in the season opener for both teams. The 'Roos will be looking to bounce back this weekend with a pair of games in Memphis against Rhodes and Fontbonne this weekend.

The game began as a defensive game going both ways, with neither team able to muster many chances early. However, the Crusaders got on the board in the 28th minute of action when a cross from Case Carnes found the head of Jorge Marquez, who finished it just inside the right post to make it a 1-0 game.

Austin College would get some chances to tally late but were turned away by the UMHB defense, making it a 1-0 final. Javier Zaragoza got the clean sheet in goal for the Crusaders, while Michael Moran made four saves and Joseph Khalaf made three stops in the net for Austin College. UMHB owned an 18-10 edge in shots for the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
