Schreiner Tallies Twice Late to Drop 'Roo Men's Soccer

After nearly 65 minutes of scoreless soccer, visiting Schreiner University tallied twice in a 15 minute span to hand the Austin College men's soccer team a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 0-8-3 overall and 0-5-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College came out strong early and actually owned a 6-4 shot advantage in the first half, but the 'Roos were unable to put many shots on goal. For the game, the 'Roos managed just one shot on target out of their eight total attempts, and Schreiner began to take control of the game in the second half with a 14-2 shot edge after halftime.

The Mountaineers struck in the 65th minute of action when Isaac Garcia crossed a ball into the box and Justin Edwards headed it home, and in the 79th minute, Schreiner would add an insurance tally when a shot by Nathaniel Olmos was saved by Andrew Celio but Ryan Hernandez pounced on the deflected ball and punched it in to make it 2-0.

Celio finished with seven saves in the match, while Blake Lawson stopped one for Schreiner. Austin College heads out on the road next weekend to take on Texas Lutheran on Friday before facing off against Schreiner again next Sunday.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
