The Austin College men's soccer team was edged 1-0 by the University of California Santa Cruz in the team's regular season finale on Sunday afternoon, bringing the team's overall record to 4-12-3 on the season.
The 'Roos and Banana Slugs were in a defensive battle for the majority of the game, taking a 0-0 score into halftime. UCSC held an 8-6 shot advantage in the first half, and was the first team to strike in the 76th minute of action when Jaden Mustacchio scored what would prove to be the deciding goal. Austin College out-shot Santa Cruz 8-7 after the half, but the Banana Slugs had a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
Andrew Celio made nine saves in goal for Austin College and David Vivian had two stops for UCSC as the Banana Slugs held a slight advantage in shots at 15-14.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
