Men's Soccer Settles for Scoreless Draw with Southwestern

The Austin College men's soccer team put together an outstanding defensive effort to keep a strong Southwestern University team scoreless, battling the Pirates to a 0-0 draw after a pair of overtime periods. The 'Roos are now 3-8-3 overall and 3-5-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Southwestern dominated possession for much of the first two halves before Austin College began to put pressure on late in the second, but neither team was able to find the net in regulation. The 'Roos took control in the first overtime with the ball consistently in their attacking third, getting two shots to zero for the Pirates but they were unable to capitalize. Southwestern got two shots off in the second overtime before the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Andrew Celio and Evan Wyatt anchored a strong defensive effort for the 'Roos, with Celio making eight saves in the net to earn the clean sheet.

Austin College is back in action on Tuesday when they host SCAC-leading Trinity University at 2:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
