Men's Soccer Falls to Fontbonne to Open 2013

The Austin College men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead, but Fontbonne University scored four straight on their way to handing the 'Roos a 4-2 loss in the season opener on Sunday.

Austin College got on the board in the 19th minute when Andrew Parides scored on a penalty kick to make it a 1-0 game, but Fontbonne's Wesley Laney evened the score 10 minutes later. Fontbonne got a penalty kick of its own in the 32nd minute off the foot of Josh Schulz to take a 2-1 lead.

The Griffins would add one more first half tally when Zach Meyer headed home a corner kick by Schulz to make it 3-1 heading into the break. In the second half the Griffins extended the lead to 4-1 in the 85th minute, and that remained the score until Taylor Greenwalt scored with just 32 seconds remaining to make it a 4-2 final.

Fontbonne owned a 14-11 edge in shots, with Austin College's Andrew Celio and Fontbonne's Joey Mirth each making two saves in the net. Austin College is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Tyler to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor.
