Buena Vista jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and maintained that margin through the first 10 minutes of the game, until a three from Kidus Getenet cut it to 19-16 at the 9:37 mark. The Beavers pushed the score to 28-21 with 5:54 left before halftime, but triples from Getenet and Jackson Rennie pulled Austin College to within a point at 28-27 with just over five minutes remaining in the opening frame. Austin College took its first lead of the game at 36-35 on a Jordan Hudgins layup with a minute and a half to go before the break, but Buena Vista's Gunner Reed threw down a dunk 20 seconds later to make it 37-36 and that's how things would stand at the half.
The Beavers used a strong start to the second half to grew their lead to 53-43 with 12:53 left in the game, but Austin College started to chip away and pulled to within five at 56-51 on a trey from Rennie with 10:16 on the clock. Buena Vista responded with a 5-0 run to get it back to double digits, and that run would grow to 10-2 to make it 66-53 at the under eight minute timeout. The Beavers kept the margin in double figures for most of the rest of the game, with Austin College managing to cut it to a nine point deficit twice, including on a late three by Price Bradley with six seconds left to make it an 84-75 final.
Getenet scored 19 points and added five rebounds and four assists to lead Austin College, while Bradley added 15 points and seven boards. Rennie and Jamien June each scored 10 points and June led all players with seven assists. Zane Neubam scored a game-high 24 points, knocking down 5-of-8 from long range, and Carter Sievers had 18 for the Beavers.
