Three 'Roos Earn NABC Honors Court Recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Austin College men's basketball players Christian Luera, Jason Jones Jr., and Jonathan Lawrence have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2022-23 Honors Court for their outstanding performance in the classroom, the organization has announced.

Luera, a junior guard from El Paso, has appeared in 41 games during his career, including 17 appearances this past season while setting career highs in points, rebounds, and assists. He was also a SCAC Academic Honor Roll member. Jones, a junior forward from Houston, has been an All-SCAC performer and one of the top rebounders in the league, and this past year was named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District performer on top of being on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Lawrence, a senior guard from Lucas, earned NABC Honors Court accolades after completing his career as a four-year letterwinner with 41 appearances, including four starts, over the course of his career in addition to earning SCAC Academic Honor Roll recognition each year.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

  1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
  2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2021-22 academic year.
  3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
  4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I institution with a NABC member coach.
