'Roos Fall Short Against Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's basketball team dropped its final game of the 2022 calendar year on Saturday, falling 82-71 at Centenary on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Roos jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but Centenary countered with a 16-3 run to go on top by double figures at 20-10 with 9:13 left in the opening half. The margin grew to 26-12 before Austin College narrowed the gap to 37-28 at halftime. Nate Williams came off the bench to score nine points for the 'Roos in the opening 20 minutes of action.

In the second half, Tristan Dick knocked down a three to cut it to 39-31, but the Gents answered with 10 straight to make it 49-31 with 17:32 left in the game. The lead expanded to 59-38 six minutes later, but a three by Joshua Joe and eight quick points from Jackson Rennie made it a 63-49 game with 9:07 left. The Gents would again push the margin to 20 at 75-55 just over three minutes later, and the 'Roos were unable to get the deficit back into single digits the rest of the way.

Rennie scored 22 of his team-high 24 points in the second half for Austin College, knocking down 5-of-9 triples in the defeat. Williams finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists, and Joe and Kidus Getenet each added 11 points. Jason Jones Jr. grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the 'Roos. Seth Thomas led Centenary with 23 points.
