Texas Lutheran Tops 'Roo Men's Hoops

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team led Texas Lutheran 34-30 at halftime, but a big second half for the Bulldogs resulted in a 73-62 defeat for the 'Roos on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 5-18 overall on the year.

The 'Roos had 11 different players get into the scoring column, but the team shot just 32.8% from the field and committed 18 turnovers. Jaylyn Cleamons paced Austin College with 10 points and was the only 'Roo to reach double digits, with Jackson Rennie and Rex King each coming off the bench to chip in eight points. Jake Patin and Chanston Goodman had seven points apiece, while Tristan Dick had eight rebounds and five assists. Austin College held a 51-43 advantage on the glass, including 14 offensive rebounds, but the Bulldogs only turned the ball over nine times in the game and made three more triples than Austin College.

TLU took advantage of Austin College's turnovers, converting them into 14 points while also scoring 19 fast break points. The Bulldogs scored 43 second half points as they took control midway through the period. The teams went back and forth for the first 10 minutes after halftime, but TLU went on top 51-49 with 9:26 left and would not relinquish the lead. Sebastian Andrade led Texas Lutheran with 13 points and 10 rebounds as four Bulldogs reached double figures in the scoring column.
