'Roo Men's Hoops Falls to Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas - Schreiner University used a big second half to pull away from the Austin College men's basketball team on Friday afternoon, scoring 49 points after the break to hand the 'Roos a 79-60 defeat in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 5-11 overall and 2-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

It was a defensive battle in the first half, with Schreiner taking a 30-24 lead into halftime. Austin College got out to a hot start, leading 9-2 just over three minutes in but the Mountaineers scored nine unanswered to make it 11-9 with 15:07 showing on the clock. The teams went back and forth over the next few minutes, but Schreiner pushed the lead to 22-15 with 7:10 left before halftime.

Jaylyn Cleamons hit a pair of threes to help keep things close early in the second half, cutting it to 35-32 with 18:09 left to play, but a 14-4 run by Schreiner made it 49-36 four minutes later. The margin grew to 55-38, and after Chanston Goodman scored to cut it to 57-45 with just over 10 minutes left to play, the Mountaineers took control and pushed the lead to 68-47 with 4:55 remaining. 

Cleamons led Austin College with 19 points and made 3-of-7 three pointers. Jonathan Lawrence was the next highest scorer for the 'Roos, hitting 2-of-4 from deep on his way to eight points, and Chase Antosca scored seven points while handing out five assists. Jason Jones grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots while chipping in six points. Four players reached double digits for Schreiner, led by Jackson Reid with 18, including a 4-of-7 performance from long range. Kamden Ross had a double-double for the Mountaineers with 12 points and 10 boards.
