HOUSTON, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team fell 76-61 at the University of St. Thomas on Saturday, bringing the team's record to 3-3 overall.
The 'Roos used 50% shooting in the first half to keep things close, with Tristan Dick scoring eight points while Joshua Joe scored seven off the bench as Austin College and St. Thomas went into the locker room with the Celts on top 39-33. The Celts knocked down 5-of-11 threes in the opening half to help build their lead, and Juan Hood poured in 16 points before the break to lead the way.
The St. Thomas lead grew to double digits early in the second half, as the Celts stretched it to 52-40 with 16:23 left to play. Austin College scored five quick points to cut it back to seven points, and the 'Roos got within six at 58-52 with 6:49 on the clock. However, St. Thomas used a 14-5 run to open things up, pushing the margin to 72-57 with two minutes remaining to put the game out of reach.
Austin College went cold in the second half, hitting 37.9% from the field while the Celt knocked down 50% of their shots and outscored the 'Roos 11-to-4 at the free throw line after halftime. Dick finished with 15 points and five steals to lead Austin College, and Michael Holland added 13 points and eight boards. Joe finished with nine points, and Jaylyn Cleamons chipped in eight in the loss.
