Men's Hoops Completes Weekend Sweep of Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team dominated throughout in their second game in as many days against the University of Dallas, leading by as many as 24 points on their way to a 78-66 win on Saturday in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 2-0 to open the year.

Kam Hogan scored 23 points to pace Austin College and Jason Jones Jr. notched his first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the 'Roos took a 45-27 lead into halftime and never looked back. The 'Roos shot 48.6% from the field in the first half while holding the Crusaders to just 33.3% from the field in the opening frame, knocking down five triples compared to just one for Dallas. 

It was an 11-10 game in favor of the 'Roos before an 8-0 run opened things up midway through the first half, and a pair of Michael Holland free throws and a basket by Jones pushed it to a 26-13 game with 8:33 left before halftime. Hogan knocked down a three and Jones coverted a three-point-play later in the half to push it to a 43-23 lead with 1:42 on the clock before the Crusaders got back to within 20 heading into the break.

Austin College came out hot to start the second half, with Tristan Dick knocking down a triple and Jaylyn Cleamons and Jones scoring to make it 58-34, giving the 'Roos their largest lead of the game with 16:10 left to play. The lead never got closer to 12 the rest of the way, as the 'Roos cruised down the stretch to earn the victory one day after picking up a win at the buzzer over the Crusaders.

Hogan knocked down 7-of-15 attempts from the field to get his 23 points, adding six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jones was 8-of-10 from the floor, and Dick chipped in 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Holland joined Jones with a double-double of his own, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the win.

Letrell Toussaint scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Crusaders, while Matt Holloway came off the bench to score 12 and Marcus Juarez added 11.

Austin College is home again next weekend when they host Southwestern University on Friday and Saturday in another pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests.
