SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team has been picked eighth in the 2021 men's basketball preseason poll in a vote by the league's coaches, following a season in which the 'Roos went 14-12 and advanced to the conference tournament.
The 'Roos will be led this season by seniors Michael Holland and Kam Hogan, and head coach Rodney Wecker will be looking for early contributions from several newcomers when they tip off the season this weekend with a pair of games against the University of Dallas. Last season, Holland was a first team All-SCAC pick after finishing among the league leaders in virtually every statistical category, averaging 17.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals-per-game. Hogan added 7.7 points-per-game coming off the bench, and enters his senior campaign with a career average of 11.5 points and a chance to surpass 1,000 points in his four seasons in Sherman.
Leading the preseason voting was the University of St. Thomas, followed by Texas Lutheran and Centenary. The 'Roos open the 2021 season on Friday against the University of Dallas, who tied for fourth alongside Trinity in voting by the coaches.
Austin College and Dallas tip off at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night in Hughey Gym to open up the season.
