CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College men's basketball team picked up its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 89-79 at Hendrix to bring the team's record to 3-1 on the year.
Austin College shot 52.8% from the field, 60% from long distance, and made 14-of-17 free throws but it still wasn't enough to keep up with Hendrix as the Warriors shot a sizzling 67.4% from the field in the game, including 10-of-18 from three point range. The 'Roos jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game and stayed on top until four and a half minutes into the game, when Hendrix squared things up at 12 apiece. The 'Roos went on top 34-27 two minutes later, but Hendrix would close the half with a 14-5 run and lead 41-39 at the break.
The Warriors knocked down 7-of-12 three pointers after halftime, with Sean Coman going 4-of-4 as they extended their lead late in the game. The 'Roos had things tied up at 72 each with just over five minutes to play, but a 17-7 run to close things out pushed the deficit to double figures.
Kam Hogan led Austin College with 17 points, hitting 7-of-13 attempts from the field, and Luke Brumbaugh, Roman Strickland, and Michael Holland each chipped in 11. Holland had a team-high seven rebounds. Hendrix was paced by Seth Stanley, who scored 31 points, while Coman finished with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including making all five of his three point attempts.
