'Roos Hold Off Colorado College 80-73

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College men's basketball team got 19 points apiece from Kam Hogan and Derek Lockman and the 'Roos held off Colorado College for an 80-73 win on Saturday night. The 'Roos are now 6-7 overall and 2-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College built a 48-35 lead at halftime as Lockman poured in 16 of his career-best 19 before the break, knocking down 4-of-7 from long range in the first 20 minutes of action. Hogan also did the bulk of his damage before halftime, scoring 12 points as Austin College shot 55.6% from the field and 46.7% from deep in the opening half. Austin College extended the margin to 54-40 early in the second half, but an 8-0 run got the Tigers right back in it.

A three from Lockman made it a 70-59 game with 5:46 to play but once again the Tigers were able to make a bit of a run, trimming it to 72-66 with 58 seconds left. Colorado College never got closer than five points the rest of the way, however, and Hogan and Devin Roland combined to knock down four free throws in the closing moments to seal the victory.

Lockman finished 7-of-11 overall and 5-of-9 from deep, and Hogan hit 7-of-14 shots to get his 19 points. Hogan also grabbed seven boards, dished out four assists, and came away with four steals in the victory. Michael Holland added 16 points, seven boards, and four assists, and Roland chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

Austin College returns to Hughey Gym next weekend for a pair of SCAC games, taking on Southwestern on Friday and Texas Lutheran on Saturday.
