'Roo Men Drop Road Game at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team got 22 points from Kam Hogan, but Texas Lutheran closed the game with a 23-14 run over the final 10 minutes to hand the 'Roos an 84-74 loss on Saturday night. The 'Roos are now 4-20 overall and 2-11 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Texas Lutheran led for most of the first half before Hogan scored to square things at 36, but the Bulldogs got a bucket before the break to lead 38-36 halfway through. Austin College took its only lead of the game at 42-41 on a jumper by Josh Quinn less than two minutes into the second half, but Texas Lutheran scored the next five points and eventually went on top 57-49 with 13:16 left to play.

Austin College cut it to a one-point game at 61-60 with 10 minutes left but that's as close as things would get the rest of the way. Hogan made 11-of-21 shots to get his 22 points and added seven rebounds and three assists. Justice Mercadel added 13 points, and Austin Wells came off the bench to score 11 points, hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. The 'Roos shot 50.8% from the field and committed just 10 turnovers, but were out-scored 20-to-9 at the free throw line while Texas Lutheran also made eight threes, compared to five for Austin College.
