Austin College Men Fall to Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College men's basketball team struggled to get anything going offensively and Millsaps shot nearly 52% from the field as the Majors topped the 'Roos 81-55 on Thursday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 2-7 overall this season.

Austin College got off to a strong start, taking a 10-7 lead early on and, after Millsaps had grabbed a four point lead, squaring things at 18 apiece with 10:38 left in the opening half. However, after Millsaps took a 22-20 lead, the Majors would use a 12-0 run to surge ahead 34-20 with 4:12 on the clock.

The Millsaps run continued over the final minutes of the half, turning into a 25-7 streak and making it 47-27 at halftime. The Majors scored the first four points of the second half to extend the margin to 51-27, and the lead grew to 67-39 with 12 minutes left in the game. Austin College tried to chip away, with Josh Garrett completing a three-point-play to make it 67-42 but the Majors would answer with an 11-5 run to go on top 78-47 and put the game too far out of reach.

Austin College shot just 35.6% from the field and made only 4-of-16 three pointers, and were out-rebounded 38-26 in the game. Garrett made 6-of-8 shots to finish with a career-high 14 points as the lone Austin College player to reach double figures, and JP Feider added eight points and seven rebounds.
