'Roo Men Advance to SCAC Semifinals

The Austin College men's basketball team upset 3-seed Southwestern University 71-60 in the first round of the SCAC Tournament on Friday in Shreveport. The 'Roos are now 16-10 on the year and move on to the semifinals tomorrow, where they'll place 2-seed Colorado College.

The 6-seeded 'Roos were in control for most of the game, jumping out to an early 13-6 lead and, after falling behind briefly 21-17, taking a 38-29 lead into halftime. Austin College's lead grew to as much as 14 in the second half at 52-38, and the Pirates were unable to get the margin under six points in the game's final 10 minutes.

Alan Sullivan scored 21 points to pace the 'Roos, and Austin Freet recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cedric Hudson chipped in 11 points and five boards, and JP Feider came off the bench to grab 12 rebounds and block four shots.

The 'Roos shot 43.1% from the field while holding Southwestern to just 29.3% shooting. The Pirates also made just 4-of-28 three pointers in the game.

Austin College now faces Colorado College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The 'Roos fell twice to the Tigers in the regular season by scores of 61-58 at home and 74-64 on the road. The Tigers received a first round bye after finishing second in the SCAC in the regular season.
