'Roo Football Falls to McMurry

McMurry struck first midway through the opening quarter when Jess Hoel plunged in from a yard out to cap off a 14 play, 82 yard drive, making it 7-0. Austin College got on the board with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, as Caleb Balderas knocked in a 22 yard field goal after Cam Hammond's interception set up the 'Roos deep in War Hawks territory. Those would be the only points of the day for Austin College, however, with McMurry out-scoring the 'Roos 14-0 in the second quarter and 10-0 after halftime.
Hoel threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to Karmelus Card to make it a 14-3 lead with 9:14 left before halftime, and Hoel rushed for his second score of the game, this time from two yards out with 10 seconds left in the second period to make it 21-3 at halftime. The 'Roos limited McMurry to a field goal in the third quarter, making it 24-3 heading into the final frame, where the War Hawks got a 76 yard touchdown connection from Dylan Slack to Landon Holley with 1:17 left in the game.
Jaylon Talton completed 13-of-28 passes for 128 yards and Barrett Hudson rushed 18 times for 50 yards, while Michael Cress caught three passes for 39 yards. Brady Dygert led Austin College defensively with 15 tackles, putting him over 100 stops on the year, and Pablo Cantu added 10 tackles. Hoel was 28-of-42 for 246 yards with a touchdown and a pick, and added 48 rushing yards and a pair of scores on seven attempts.
