ALPINE, Texas - The Austin College football team fell 55-14 in a road American Southwest Conference game at Sul Ross State University on Saturday, bringing the 'Roos to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play on the year.

The 'Roos piled up 259 yards on the ground on Saturday, their best output of the young season, but couldn't keep up with the aerial attack of the Lobos in the game. Sul Ross quarterback TJ DeShields finished with 559 passing yards and seven touchdowns, connecting on 36-of-49 passes.

Sul Ross finished the opening quarter with a 13-0 lead and would go on top 20-0 in the second before Tyler James found paydirt from a yard out to cut it to a 20-7 game. The Lobos picked up one more touchdown in the quarter, however, to make it a 27-7 game at halftime. Two more touchdowns would come for SRSU in the third to make it 41-7, and the margin grew to 55-7 before Ben Meraz scored on a one-yard touchdown plunge to make it a 55-14 final.

Meraz led the 'Roos offensively with 59 yards on 11 carries, while Dauvo McDonald and Seth Kerstetter each added 46 yards on the ground. James finished with 31 yards on 11 totes. Colton Gerken had nine tackles to lead Austin College defensively, while Evan Dennis had seven stops and Brady Dygert made six, including two tackles-for-loss. Dygert also had a fumble recovery, with Nick Chevalier getting the forced fumble.

Austin College is off this weekend, and returns to the field on October 1 when they head back out on the road to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
