SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College football team fell 23-7 to visiting Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon, as a defensive touchdown late in the game put things out of reach for the 'Roos at Jerry Apple Stadium. The 'Roos are now 0-2 on the year.

It was a defensive battle early, as the 'Roos held the Lynx to field goals in each of the first two quarters. Rhodes got on the board with 2:16 left in the opening quarter on a 25-yard attempt, and added a 29-yard attempt with just under three minutes left before halftime to take a 6-0 lead into the break. The Lynx looked to be knocking on the door for a touchdown early in the second, driving down inside the Austin College 5-yard line, but Jarrett Pleasant picked off a pass to keep things close.

Rhodes got the game's first touchdown midway through the second quarter, as Elijah Bane scored from seven yards out to cap a 15-play, 75-yard drive to make it 13-0. However, the 'Roos would get on the board early in the fourth as Colin Mushinksi found a seam on fourth down and rushed 39 yards for the score to cut it to a 13-7 game. The Lynx added a 26-yard field goal, the third of the game for Wiley Henshaw, to make it 16-7 with 9:04 left.

The Lynx would seal the game less than a minute later, as Kobe Bins scooped up a fumble and raced 40 yards untouched to make it a 23-7 game and Austin College was unable to claw its way back in over the course of the game's final minutes.

Mushinksi led Austin College offensively with 61 rushing yards on three carries, and Kennon Magers added 35 yards on nine attempts. Defensively, the 'Roos got nine tackles and a pick from Pleasant, and Brady Dygert and Eliel Sandoval each had eight stops, including 2.0 sacks for Sandoval. Dygert also added a fumble recovery.

Luke Macias completed 15-of-26 passes for 178 yards, and Bane carried 16 times for 99 yards and added four receptions for an additional 28 yards of offense. Iman Lohrasbi led Rhodes with 10 tackles, including five solo stops, and Bins had six stops, including 1.5 sacks, to go along with his scoop and score in the fourth quarter.
