'Roo Football Falls Short at Millsaps

The Austin College football team trailed 36-21 in the fourth quarter before scoring 13 straight, but the team's comeback bid fell short in a 36-34 loss at Millsaps on Saturday.

The 'Roos and Majors took a 14-14 tie into the half, with Noah Jesko scoring from a yard out and finding Madison Ross for a 28 yard touchdown for the two Austin College scores. In the second half the 'Roos got a 12 yard touchdown run from Sean Sweeney to tie things at 21, but Millsaps would score the next 15 to take a 36-21 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Jesko found PJ Fuller for a 35 yard touchdown with 9:27 left to make it 36-27, and after the 'Roos got the ball back Austin Rainer scored from two yards out with 3:35 remaining. The 'Roos would get one more chance with 30 seconds left, and Jesko's 36 yard pass to Nathan Orbach got the team across midfield but the 'Roos would run out of time before getting into field goal range.

Jesko completed 14-of-21 passes for 199 yards and Sweeney rushed 13 times for 78 yards as Austin College piled up 209 yards on the ground and 423 yards overall. Fuller caught six passes for 105 yards and Nathan Packard led the defense with eight tackles, including 1.0 for loss.
