McMurry Takes Two From 'Roo Baseball
ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its road doubleheader against McMurry University on Sunday, falling 12-1 in game one and 7-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 9-22 overall and 6-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its road doubleheader against McMurry University on Sunday, falling 12-1 in game one and 7-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 9-22 overall and 6-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The War Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one and added another score in the second to make it 4-0, with Michael Smosna belting a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to help McMurry build its early lead. Four more runs came across in the fourth to make it 8-0 before Austin College got on the board in the fifth, as Mason Woodhouse came home to score on a ground ball to make it 8-1.
The War Hawks put up another four-spot in the bottom of the sixth to make it 12-1, however, and that's how things would end after seven innings via the run-rule. Asher Thompson took the loss for Austin College, surrendering eight runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings of work, while Ethan Wendel picked up the win for McMurry. Six different players had one hit for the 'Roos, with Woodhouse goint 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Game two saw the War Hawks take a 1-0 lead in the first, and that remained the score until the fourth, when another run came across for McMurry. The game was 2-0 heading until the sixth, when one more run came home to make it 3-0, and McMurry added its fourth run in the seventh. Smosna tripled home another run in the eighth to kick off a three-run frame, making it a 7-0 final as Austin College was limited to three hits.
Tyler Ramage absorbed the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 14 hits in 7.2 innings of work, while Hunter Poe went the distance for McMurry to get the win. Isaac Villa was 1-for-4 with a double to lead Austin College at the dish.
