'Roo Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Schreiner

The 'Roos wrap up the weekend having taken two out of three from the Mountaineers, improving to 4-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

The 'Roos wrap up the weekend having taken two out of three from the Mountaineers, improving to 4-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
Austin College got on the board first in game one when Isaac Villa scored on an error in the top of the first, but Schreiner answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa's RBI single in the third squared things up before the Mountaineers plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, and Schreiner's lead grew to 6-2 through four innings.
The 'Roos cut it to 6-3 with an RBI double by Ashton Cason in the top of the sixth, but Schreiner erupted for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to push it to a 14-3 game. Austin College got a two-run homer from Desmond Squalls to make it 14-5 in the seventh, and Tino Ramirez scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to make it 14-6. However, Schreiner pushed two runs across in the bottom of the eighth to make it 16-6 and end the game via the run-rule.
Jonas CeBallos took the loss for Austin College, giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work, and Ayala-Hinojosa led Austin College with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Daniel Rodriguez and Carson Romero each had three hits to pace Schreiner.
Game two was scoreless until the top of the third, when Austin College got six runs on the board starting with a two-run single from Ayala-Hinojosa, and RayShawn Riley brought home another run to make it 3-0. Greg Smith knocked in two more runs, and Eason Clark doubled to plate Scott Hosmer to head into the bottom of the third leading 6-0. The margin grew to 8-0 in the fourth as Squalls brought home a run and Riley tripled to plate Ayala-Hinojosa, and Villa's RBI triple and a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Ramirez in the fifth made it 10-0.
Squalls launched a solo shot in the sixth to push it to 11-0 before Schreiner got on the board in the bottom of the inning, getting four runs across to cut it to 11-4. However, the 'Roos responded with another big inning in the seventh, with Ramirez tripling to plate Villa, Ayala-Hinojosa doubling home another run, and Jack Wilhelm singling to score two more. Riley's RBI double capped things off, making it 16-4, and that's where things would end after seven innings due to the run-rule.
Blake Goodridge earned the win for Austin College, giving up four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of action, and Villa and Wilhelm each had three hits for the 'Roos, with the team collecting 16 hits collectively. Jared Salinas went 2-for-3 for Schreiner, and Tanner Beck took the loss after giving up six runs on five hits in an inning of action.
