'Roo Baseball Drops Three at No. 15 Trinity
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road games this weekend at No. 15-ranked Trinity University, falling 10-2 in game one on Friday evening before the Tigers swept Saturday's twinbill by scores of 27-4 and 19-8. The 'Roos are now 0-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road games this weekend at No. 15-ranked Trinity University, falling 10-2 in game one on Friday evening before the Tigers swept Saturday's twinbill by scores of 27-4 and 19-8. The 'Roos are now 0-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The 'Roos jumped out to an early lead in game one on Friday night, as Isaac Villa drove home Jack Wilhelm to make it 1-0 in the top of the second. Trinity responded back with a run in the bottom of the third to even things up, and the Tigers pushed two more across in the fourth, making it a 3-1 game. Austin College cut it to 3-2 in the top of the fifth, with Desmond Squalls ripping an RBI single through the left side of the infield to plate Villa, but Trinity responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 4-2, the the Tigers would add three more runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to push it to a 10-2 margin.
Trystan Mallory absorbed the loss, giving up three runs on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks issued in 3.1 innings of work, while Trinity's Trajan Lee earned the win, surrendering two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Ashton Cason went 2-for-4 to pace Austin College at the plate.
In the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Tigers wasted little time building a big lead, plating 12 runs in the top of the first and adding four in the second. Squalls doubled home two runs to get Austin College on the board and make it a 16-2 game in the third, but the Tigers got three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Tino Ramirez singled to bring home Tripp Thoms in the top of the fourth, but Trinity scored six more to make it 25-3 heading into the fifth. After pushing the margin to 27-3 in the fifth, Scott Hosmer had an RBI single in the seventh to make it a 27-4 final.
Zach Andrews took the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs on four hits with four walks in 0.1 innings, while Ramirez, Hosmer, Thoms, and Greg Smith each had a pair of hits in the loss. Grant Anderson was 3-for-4 with six RBI, a double, and a home run to lead the Tigers.
Squalls opened the scoring in the final game of the series with a two-run base hit in the top of the first to put Austin College ahead, and after two runs came home for the Tigers in the second, Ramirez scored on a passed ball and Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa picked up a two-run single to put the 'Roos ahead 5-2.
The Tigers cut it to a 5-4 game in their next set of at-bats, but Asher Thompson came home on a passed ball and Mason Woodhouse scored on a balk in the fifth to make it a 7-4 lead for the 'Roos. Trinity evened things up in the bottom half of the inning, and after Austin College regained the lead in the sixth when Villa scored on an error to make it 8-7, the Tigers took the lead for good with five runs in the sixth, adding another in the seventh and six more in the eighth to end the game at 19-8.
Brant Stuber took the loss in relief, surrendering six runs, five earned, on four hits in 1.0 innings of action. Squalls finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ayala-Hinojosa was 1-for-4 with three RBI. Jack Briese came out of the bullpen to earn the win for Trinity, giving up an unearned run on one hit in 3.1 innings of action. Nicholas Jones went 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, a double, a triple, and a home run.
