IRVING, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision at the University of Dallas on Sunday, as the 'Roos attempted to stage a rally in the ninth inning but came up short. The 'Roos are now 8-21 overall on the year.

The Crusaders jumped on top 1-0 after the first inning and added two more runs in the second to make it a 3-0 game, but a two-run homer from Tino Ramirez in the top of the third cut it to a 3-2 game. Austin College squared things up in the fourth, with Scott Hosmer coming home to tie the game on an RBI single by Tripp Thoms. Dallas regained the lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning, however, and three more runs came across in the sixth to put the Crusaders up 7-3. The margin grew to 8-3 in the eighth, but Ramirez roped a two-run double in the top of the ninth to cut it to 8-5. That's where the rally would end, however, as the 'Roos were unable to continue to chip away in the final frame.

Ramirez finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and Asher Thompson went 2-for-3 to lead the 'Roos at the plate, while Barrett Calhoun took the loss in relief. Paxton Huff went 3-for-4 and Caleb Hohman was 2-for-4 with a home run to lead Dallas.
