SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team battled throughout both of its games against visiting Trinity University on Saturday, but the 'Roos came up short in 8-6 and 4-1 decisions against the Tigers at Baker Field.

The Tigers jumped on top 1-0 in the first inning of game one before erupting for six runs in the top of the second to make it a 7-0 game, with Kai Tinker opening the scoring in the second frame with a two-run homer. Austin College got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a Trinity throwing error to bring Keaton High and Ryan Padfield home to cut it to a 7-2 game. That remained the score until the top of the eighth when the Tigers tacked on their last run of the game to make it 8-2, but Austin College responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to trim it to an 8-6 game heading into the ninth.

RayShawn Riley got the 'Roos started in the eighth with a run-scoring single, and Ashton Cason followed with a two-run double. Cason would later come home on a throwing error to make it 8-6, but that's as close as Austin College got, as the 'Roos were unable to mount a ninth inning comeback. Jonas Ceballos took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in 1.2 innings of work, while Jackson Teer got the win for the Tigers after going 7.0 innings and striking out seven batters while allowing two runs. Cason went 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the 'Roos.

In game two, Trinity once again put a run on the board in the top of the first, and the Tigers added a run in the third to make it 2-0. Nicholas Lazzara drove in both of Trinity's first two runs, and Mattias Rytting knocked in another in the fourth to make it 3-0. Lazzara capped the scoring for the Tigers with another RBI in the fifth, pushing it to a 4-0 game. Austin College was able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh, with Cason driving in a run to cut it to 4-1, but after putting a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, the 'Roos were unable to come from behind to even things up.

Tyler Ramage got the loss for Austin College, giving up four runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action. Trajan Lee got the win for Trinity, giving up one run on three hits in 6.0 innings, and Cason once again led Austin College at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance.
