'Roos Drop Series Opener to Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team fell 7-1 in game of of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against nationally-ranked Trinity University on Friday, bringing the 'Roos to 8-16 overall on the year.

The Tigers got on the board in the top of the first when Nicholas Lazzara singled home the game's first run, and Trinity added another score in the inning to make it a 2-0 game. The margin expanded to 4-0 in the top of the third, as Alex Monson brought home a pair of runs with a base hit through the right side. The 'Roos managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to a 4-1 game, as Jake Trapani singled to right field, scoring Ryan Padfield.

Colt Harris doubled home two more runs for Trinity to make it 6-1 in the sixth, and the Tigers tacked on one more run in the seventh to make it 7-1 and that's how things would end. Trystan Mallory took the loss for Austin College, giving up four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work, while Joseph Chavana got the win for Trinity after surrendering one run on six hits with nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Trapani and Brandon Hill each had a pair of hits to lead Austin College at the dish. The 'Roos and Tigers will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
