SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against Texas Lutheran University on Saturday, as the Bulldogs used late surges in both games to put the games out of reach with final scores of 15-0 and 9-1.

Game one was scoreless through the first two innings, before Texas Lutheran was able to get on the scoreboard with a Xavier Arias run-scoring single in the top of the third. Tyler Post added a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it a 2-0 game, and the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 5-0 with three more runs in the fifth. Adam Peavy had a two-run base hit in the sixth to give Texas Lutheran a 7-0 lead, but it was in the seventh that the Bulldogs put Austin College away for good, taking advantage of some Austin College miscues to plate eight runs in the frame, the last four of which ended up being unearned due to defensive errors.

Trystan Mallory took the loss for Austin College, surrendering three runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work, while Texas Lutheran's Diego Vinton went the distance to earn the victory for Texas Lutheran, holding the 'Roos to four hits. Tino Ramirez was 2-for-3 to lead Austin College at the dish, while Arias was 3-for-3 with four RBI for TLU.

Game two proved to be a pitchers duel until late, when the Bulldogs pulled away in the seventh and eighth innings with three runs in both frames. The game was scoreless until the fourth, when Post plated a run for TLU with a sacrifice fly. An error in the sixth allowed another run to come home for the Bulldogs, making it 2-0, and Texas Lutheran extended its lead to 5-0 in the seventh with three more runs coming home, and three more runs in the eighth made it 8-0. RayShawn Riley got Austin College on the board for the first time in the doubleheader in the bottom of the eighth, singling home Ramirez to make it an 8-1 game. Texas Lutheran tacked on one more run in the ninth, and Austin College was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning.

Jonas Ceballos got the loss for the 'Roos after giving up five runs - three earned - on nine hits with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Johnny Garza earned the win for TLU, pitching 7.0 scoreless innings and scattering three hits. Nick Griffin was 2-for-4 for Austin College, and Hayden Kesselring was 4-for-5 with three RBI for TLU.
