Austin College Falls in Season-Ending Doubleheader

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against No. 14-ranked Trinity University on Saturday, as the Tigers used a pair of offensive explosions to drop the 'Roos by scores of 21-5 and 19-3. The 'Roos finish the season with a record of 8-28.

In game one, the Tigers put one run across in the first inning before the bats came alive in the second, scoring seven runs to make it an 8-0 game. Austin College got three runs back in the third, with Jake Webster singling home a run and Jake Trapani launching a two-run homer. The 'Roos cut it to an 8-5 game in the fifth on a two-run single by Ashton Milton, but Trinity erupted for nine runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach at 17-5. The Tigers would tack on four more runs in the seventh to make it a 21-4 final.

James Adams took the loss for Austin College, surrendering eight runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work. Mason Woodhouse went 2-for-3 to lead Austin College at the plate.

Trinity once again took a first inning 1-0 lead in game two, but Brandon Hill and Zack Mahoney each brought home a run in the second to put Austin College on top 2-1. However, the lead was short-lived as Trinity plated six runs in the third to make it 7-2, and the Tigers added two runs in both of the fourth and fifth innings to surge ahead 11-2. The Tigers exploded for eight runs in the sixth, and the game would end with a 19-3 final after one more run for the 'Roos on an RBI from Asher Thompson in the bottom of the seventh.

Tristan Mallory absorbed the loss for the 'Roos, giving up nine runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings of work, while Ashton Cason went 4-for-4 to pace the 'Roos at the dish. Trinity belted seven home runs in the game, including two off the bat of Brian Schaub.
