KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College baseball team nearly came away with a doubleheader sweep at Schreiner University on Saturday, but the 'Roos ended up splitting with the Mountaineers with a 7-6 game one loss and a 10-8 game two victory.

After dropping the opening game of the series 9-4 on Friday evening, the 'Roos were on the verge of picking up a shutout victory in game two as they took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth. After eight shutout innings from Tristan Mallory, Schreiner's bats came alive in the final inning, putting three runs across against Mallory before earning the walk-off win with four more runs in the inning. Kurtis Gustafson took the loss, surrendering four runs - only two earned - on four hits.

The 'Roos built their lead with RBI base hits from Logan Ballard and Garrett Gray in the top of the first, and Jake Webster tripled home a run in the sixth to make it 3-0. Zack Mahoney tripled to plate another run and then came home to make it 5-0, and Mason Woodhouse brought home another run in the ninth to make it a 6-0 game before Schreiner mounted its final inning comeback. Mahoney went 4-for-6 with three runs scored to lead the 'Roos at the plate, and Woodhouse went 4-for-5.

Austin College got in the win column to wrap up the weekend, with Jon Voos earning the first victory of his collegiate career as he tossed 5.0 innings while allowing five runs - four earned - on seven hits. Six different 'Roos collected two hits apiece as Austin College scored once in the first, twice in the second, and four times in the third to build a 7-3 lead through three. Austin College added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, and took a 10-5 lead in the top of the seventh.

Schreiner put three runs across in the bottom half of the seventh, but the 'Roos were able to shut the door on the Mountaineers down the stretch, with James Adams throwing a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save.
