SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team kept it close with Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading Texas Lutheran, but the Bulldogs shut the 'Roos down over the final seven innings in an 8-5 game on Friday evening at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 7-18 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Texas Lutheran put four runs on the board in the opening frame, but Austin College answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Jake Webster launched a three-run homer to left field to make it a 4-3 game. The Bulldogs pushed two more runs across in the second when Joe Jimenez doubled home a pair of runs, but Webster added an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Scott Hosmer brought home another run in the bottom of the second to cut it to a 6-5 game.

That's how things would stand until the fifth, when TLU got a two-run double from Holden Philippus, making it 8-5, and that's how things would end as neither team was able to tack on any more runs over the final four innings.

Justin Lambright took the loss for Austin College after giving up eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Trystan Mallory was stellar in relief, tossing 4.1 innings of three-hit, scoreless baseball. Joe Burch got the win for TLU, striking out 14 batters while allowing five runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings.

Webster finished 1-for-4 with four RBI, and Branson Vrazel went 2-for-5 and scored a run while adding a stolen base in the loss.
