Offensive Explosion Leads to Big Win for 'Roo Baseball

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team erupted for 20 runs on 26 hits on Tuesday as the 'Roos defeated Dallas Christian 20-3 in a non-conference game at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 6-15 overall on the year.

Jake Webster got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, and the 'Roos tacked on five more runs in the second when Jake Trapani and Zack Mahoney each doubled home a run, and Sergio De Paoli and Webster each brought home another with De Paoli also scoring via error to make it a 7-0 game. The Crusaders got two runs back in the third, but Garrett Gray launched a two-run homer to make it 9-2, and the margin grew to 10-2 on an RBI by Gray in the fourth.

Dallas Christian got one run back in the top of the fifth to make it 10-3, but Austin College scored another run on a sacrifice fly by Mahoney in the bottom of the sixth and Scott Hosmer launched a three-run home run in the seventh to make it a 14-3 game. Alex Angerstein drove in two runs to open up a six-run eighth inning for the 'Roos, making it a 20-3 final score.

Trapani went 5-for-5 with two doubles to lead the 'Roos at the plate, and Hosmer added a 4-for-6 performance with four RBI and three runs scored. De Paoli and Gray each collected three hits in the victory, while Ethan Baker picked up the victory on the mound after giving up two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings of work.
