'Roos Swept in Weekend Series at UMHB

BELTON, Texs - The Austin College baseball team was swept at Mary Hardin-Baylor in the team's three game series this weekend, falling 13-0 and 7-0 on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend with a 19-7 defeat on Sunday.

UMHB put up eight runs in the opening inning of game one on Saturday and the 'Roos were never able to recover, being held to just five hits in the loss. The Crusaders added a run in the second and another in the third, and then tacked on three more runs in the fifth to make it 13-0 and that's where things would finish after seven. Branson Vrazel went 2-for-4 to lead Austin College, as the 'Roos surrendered 13 hits in the loss. James Adams took the defeat, giving up eight runs - only three earned - on five hits in 0.2 innings.

Game two saw Mary Hardin-Baylor jump out to a 1-0 lead after the first, and the Cru made it 3-0 through two innings. Once again the 'Roos struggled to get their bats going, collecting six hits with no runs, and UMHB added a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth to make it a 7-0 final. Ryan Culp absorbed the loss for Austin College, giving up five runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work. Jake Webster went 3-for-3 to lead the 'Roos offensively.

Austin College got on the board first in Sunday's single game, as Logan Ballard singled home a run, but UMHB answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Five more runs came across for the Cru in the second to make it 7-1 before Austin College pushed four runs across the plate in the fourth. Garrett Gray drew a bases loaded walk to get the scoring started, and Scott Hosmer came home on a balk. Mason Woodhouse singled home two runs to make it a 7-5 game, but after UMHB added a run in the fourth they would explode for eight in the fifth, making it 16-5 and putting the game out of reach for the 'Roos.

The 'Roos got two runs back in the sixth with an RBI double from Woodhouse and an RBI from Sergio De Paoli, but that's as close as the 'Roos would get with the Crusaders plating three more in the bottom of the inning to make it 19-7 and that's how things would end. Jake Trapani gave up seven runs, six earned, on four hits in 1.2 innings of work to take the loss, while Woodhouse went 2-for-3 with three RBI and De Paoli and Zack Mahoney each collected a pair of hits.
