SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team took both halves of its doubleheader against visiting Blackburn College on Saturday, topping the Beavers 10-6 in game one before coming from behind for a big 17-5 game two victory. The 'Roos are now 2-6 overall on the year.

The 'Roos jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one, with Zack Mahoney and Logan Ballard each driving home a run in the bottom of the first. Blackburn got one run back in the third, but Scott Hosmer and Brant Stuber each had two-run doubles in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 6-1 game. After the Beavers got two runs back in the top of the fourth, Jake Webster answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3 heading into the fifth.

Blackburn pulled two within two runs at 7-5 in the fifth, but Mason Woodhouse doubled home two runs and Serio De Paoli added an RBI double of his own to make it 10-5 in the bottom half of the inning, and the 'Roos would hold on for a 10-6 game one victory. James Adams picked up the win for Austin College, surrendering five runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings of work, while Branson Vrazel went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to pace the 'Roos at the plate.

In game two, the Beavers took advantage of three first inning errors by Austin College to plate four runs, but the 'Roos would settle in after that and begin to take control over the next few innings. The 'Roos got one run back in the bottom of the second when Beau Beshires scored on a wild pitch, and after Blackburn made it 5-1 in the third, Austin College got three runs back in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to a 5-4 game. Mahoney hit a solo homer in the fourth to square things up, and the 'Roos took advantage of several Blackburn defensive miscues in the fifth to push five runs across and make it 10-5.

Vrazel singled home a run to make it 11-5 in the sixth, and Mahoney blasted a grand slam in the same inning. Gage Lynn-Hart added a two-run homer later in the sixth to make it a 17-5 final.

Mahoney went 2-for-3 with two homers and five RBI to lead the 'Roos offensively, while Jake Trapani came on in relief to pick up the win after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings. Trapani allowed just two hits while striking out three batters with zero walks.

Austin College and Blackburn will wrap up their weekend series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
