Six From 'Roo Baseball Named All-SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six members of the Austin College baseball team have been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for their play in the 2021 season, the league office has announced. Justin Alphonse, Ryan Culp, Zack Mahoney, Jake Thomas, Jake Trapani, and Jake Webster were each recognized as honorable mention All-SCAC players.

Alphonse, a senior third baseman from The Woodlands, finished the year batting .270 with five doubles and 11 runs batted in this season, scoring 16 runs in 27 games played. Alphonse collected 24 hits on the year, and boasted a .414 on-base percentage.

Culp, a senior pitcher from Midland, picked up a pair of victories on the mound this season, tossing two complete games and logging 50.1 innings pitched. Culp struck out 42 batters for a 7.51 strikeouts-per-nine innings average.

Mahoney, a senior second baseman from Corsicana, batted .340 on the year with a .424 on-base percentage and a .440 slugging percentage. Mahoney had seven doubles and a home run, driving in 13 runs while scoring 13 more and stealing five bases.

Thomas, a senior pitcher from League City, earned two wins on the bump for the 'Roos in 2021, striking out 42 batters for a 6.91 K/9 average. Thomas threw a complete game and tossed 54.2 innings on the year.

Trapani, a freshman pitcher from League City, started six games on the mound for Austin College and threw 40.2 innings, striking out 20 batters in his nine total appearances on the bump.

Webster, a junior shortstop from Rockwall, batted .352 on the year in 26 games played with a .423 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage. Webster had four doubles and a home run, and drove in 10 runs while scoring 20 more. He also had six stolen bases on the season.
