Big Inning Pushes Schreiner Past 'Roo Baseball

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team led for most of the day on Sunday, but Schreiner plated six runs in the sixth to take the lead and the 'Roos were unable to counter, falling 7-5 to the Mountaineers. The 'Roos are now 5-17 overall on the season.

The 'Roos got on the board early, with Logan Ballard bringing home a run with a single in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0, and a throwing error later in the inning allowed Justin Alphonse to score, and Beau Beshires plated another run to make it 3-0 after one. That remained the score until the fourth, when Schreiner got a run back on an RBI double by Isaiah Hernandez to cut it to a 3-1 game.

Hernandez got Schreiner's big sixth inning started with a two-run RBI double, and two more runs came home off the bat of Jet Muniz to put the Mountaineers ahead 5-3. Chance Goins added a two-run hit in the inning, making it a 7-3 game after six. Austin College got one run back in the seventh on an RBI single from Zack Mahoney, and Jackson Kea brought home a run in the bottom of the eighth to cut it to a 7-5 margin but that's as close as things would get.

Jake Trapani took the loss for Austin College, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings of work with six strikeouts. Sergio De Paoli paced the 'Roos at the plate, going 3-for-4 in the loss, while Ballard went 2-for-4.
