TLU Takes Series Opener from 'Roo Baseball

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped a 21-3 decision at Texas Lutheran on Friday evening in the opening game of their three game series, bringing the team's overall record to 4-7 and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark to 0-4 this season.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after pushing four across in the second, and the lead grew to 10-0 in the third when six more runs came home. Texas Lutheran exploded for nine runs in the fifth to make it a 19-0 game before Austin College finally got on the board in the top of the sixth. Nick Flynn got the scoring started for Austin College with an RBI ground-out, and Brandon Evans singled to left to plate another run. Logan Ballard followed up with an RBI single of his own to make it 19-3, but that's where the scoring would end for Austin College.

TLU would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 21-3 final. Jake Trapani suffered the loss for Austin College giving up 10 runs - nine earned - on 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work, and four different 'Roos had a hit apiece, including Zack Mahoney, Flynn, Evans, and Ballard. Landon Weatherly got the win for TLU, striking out nine batters and giving up three runs - two earned - on three hits in 6.0 innings of action.
