UMHB Tops Austin College Baseball

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor used a big second inning to take a commanding 6-0 and the Austin College baseball team was unable to recover, falling 11-1 on Friday night at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 3-2 overall this season.

After a scoreless first inning, the Cru got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, and Caimyn Holiday drove in two more runs with a single to center to highlight the inning and put UMHB up 6-0. The lead grew to 7-1 in the third with another sacrifice fly, with Austin College getting on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI from Sergio De Paoli to make it 7-1.

Two more runs came across in the fourth for Mary Hardin-Baylor, and the Cru would plate two more in the sixth to make it an 11-1 game as Austin College was unable to get much going offensively. James Adams took the loss for Austin College, surrendering six runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of work, while Jeb Zolman earned the win for UMHB, giving up one run on two hits in 6.0 innings of action. 

Justin Alphonse and Brandon Evans collected the only two hits in the game for Austin College, while Mateo Calle went 4-for-4 to lead UMHB at the plate. The two teams will square off again tomorrow for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
