SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team took an early lead but was unable to hold on, falling 8-3 to visiting Arlington Baptist University on Monday night at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 7-20 overall on the season.

Brett Taff got the 'Roos on the board in the bottom of the first, bringing home Oscar Gonzalez to make it a 1-0 game, but four runs would cross the plate for ABU in the top of the second to put the Patriots ahead 4-1. Ricky Boren's 2-run double got things started in the inning for Arlington Baptist, who would add a 2-run single by Payton Walk in the fourth to make it a 6-1 game.

Taff singled to plate a run for Austin College in the fifth, and Justin Alphonse added a sacrifice fly that same inning to cut it to a 6-3 game, but that's as close as things would get the rest of the way. An error opened the door to another ABU run in the sixth, and Walk singled home another run in the seventh to make it an 8-3 final.

Collin Maynard took the loss for Austin College, surrendering four runs on four hits with three walks in an inning of work, while Taff, Gonzalez, and Clay Gilbert each had two hits to pace the 'Roos at the dish.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
