'Roos Drop Non-Conference Game to UTD

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team fell 10-3 to non-conference foe UT-Dallas on Wednesday night at Baker Field as the Comets racked up 15 hits while limiting the 'Roos to seven. Austin College is now 7-19 overall this season with the defeat.

The Comets got on the board in the top of the first when a balk brought a run home, and three more runs came across in the second to make it a 4-0 game. Thomas Craig's 2-run double highlighted the inning for the Comets. Austin College got two runs back in the bottom of the second when Justin Alphonse singled through the left side to plate one run and Josh Boring brought home another on a fielder's choice, cutting it to a 4-2 game through two.

That remained the score until the fourth, when UTD plated another run to make it a 3-run game, and the Comets scored one more in the fifth to make it 6-2. A double from Craig and an error opened the door for two more runs in the sixth, and UT-Dallas would score one run in both the seventh and eighth innings to extend their lead to 10-2. Austin College pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Webster brought Alphonse home, making it a 10-3 final score.

Jake Thomas took the loss for Austin College, surrendering six runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work. Webster went 2-for-4 and Brett Taff went 2-for-5 to lead the 'Roos at the plate.
