No. 4 Trinity Takes Two From 'Roo Baseball

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its SCAC twinbill on Friday at No. 4-ranked Trinity University, with the Tigers taking game one 4-2 and game two 5-2. The 'Roos are now 7-16 overall and 3-8 in conference play.

The Tigers took advantage of two early walks to grab a 2-0 lead after one, and tacked on another run in the fourth with a solo homer to make it 3-0. Cody Goggins singled up the middle to bring home the first run of the game for Austin College in the eighth, but Trinity got the run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 4-1 game. The 'Roos pushed one run across in the ninth with Justin Alphonse scoring on an error, but the game would end with two runners on base.

Jordan Miller took the loss for Austin College, surrendering three runs on four hits in 4.0 innings of work. Goggins, Jake Webster, and Brett Taff each had a pair of hits, including a triple for Taff.

In game two, the Tigers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second but James Wyche and Taff each drove in a run in the third to put Austin College ahead 2-1. A home run for Trinity evened things up in the bottom half of the inning, and another homer in the sixth put the Tigers ahead 3-2. One more run would score in that inning for Trinity, and the Tigers would add an insurance run in the seventh to make it a 5-2 final.

Cody Johnson absorbed the loss on the mound for the 'Roos, giving up four runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings pitched. Austin College was limited to three hits in the game, with Wyche, Oscar Gonzalez, and Nick Flynn each singling once.
