'Roo Baseball Drops Two to No. 6 Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against No. 6-ranked Trinity University on Friday night, falling 13-3 in game one and 18-1 in game two. The 'Roos are now 13-24 overall with the two defeats.

In the first game, Trinity jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead but Austin College countered in the bottom half of the first when James Arguello singled home a run to square things up. Trinity would add one run in the second and another in the third to go ahead 3-1, and the Tigers erupted for five runs in the fourth to make it 8-1 and plated three more in the fifth to make it an 11-1 game.

Thomas Oberg singled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to an 11-3 game, but Trinity got both of those runs back in the top of the eighth to go ahead 13-3 and end the game via the 10-run rule. Josh Lewis took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 12 hits in 3.1 innings of work. Oberg went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Arguello went 2-for-4.

Trinity jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning in game two and plated seven runs in the third to go on top 11-0, and the Tigers carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Arguello singled into right field and later came home on a ground out by Oberg to make it an 11-1 game. The Tigers would plate five unearned runs in the fifth to go ahead 16-1, and two more runs came across in the seventh to make it an 18-1 final.

Brett Moody took the loss in game two, surrendering 10 runs on eight hits in 2.0 innings of work. Arguello finished 2-for-3 and Oberg went 1-for-3 and drove in the team's only run.

Austin College and Trinity will wrap things up tomorrow with a single game slated for a 12:00 p.m. start at Baker Field.
