The Austin College baseball team fell 3-2 at Texas Lutheran on Friday night in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The 'Roos are now 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Texas Lutheran struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Austin College was able to square things up in the third when James Arguello singled home Jeremy Halford. The 'Roos grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on another RBI single from Arguello, this time bringing home Dylan Day.
However, the Bulldogs would plate two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 3-2 game, and Austin College was unable to score the tying run over the final three innings.
Arguello finished 2-for-4 and Day went 2-for-5 to lead Austin College offensively. Blaine Tew took the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings of work.
